WINE EXPERIENCE

Indulge in a Gourmet Journey with Our Exclusive Wine & More

Wine is an essential part of Istrian culture, with vineyards flourishing in the region’s diverse landscapes. From ancient Roman times to modern innovations, Istria's wine industry has thrived, making it one of Croatia's most prestigious wine regions.

The Mediterranean climate, coupled with the region's characteristic red and white soils, provides ideal growing conditions for a wide range of grape varieties. But it was not always so easy. In the 19th century, the phylloxera epidemic destroyed many European vineyards, including those in Istria, but the region was able to bounce back with a new passion for producing quality wines.

One of the most celebrated wines of Istria is Malvasia Istriana (Malvazija Istarska), a white wine known for its floral aromas and mineral undertones. It pairs perfectly with Istria’s seafood dishes, especially light pastas and fish. Another key variety is Teran, a bold red wine that thrives on the region’s iron-rich soils. It has a deep ruby color, high acidity, and intense flavors of dark berries and spices, making it an ideal companion to robust meat dishes. International varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay are also prominent, often blended with local grapes to create unique, Istrian style wines.

Wine tourism in Istria is thriving, with wine routes leading through picturesque vineyards and offering tastings and guided tours of the winemaking process. Some of the best wineries to visit include Kozlović Winery, Fakin Winery, Benvenuti Winery and Kabola Winery, which is known for using ancient terracotta amphorae to ferment its wines.
