Veli Jože is one of Croatia’s most beloved mythical figures, first brought to life in Vladimir Nazor’s 1908 novel. Jože is a kind-hearted giant who symbolizes the strength and spirit of the common people. On the other hand, the legend of Witch Diletta adds an air of mystery and magic to Motovun’s folklore. Diletta, often portrayed as a healer, was feared by locals, who believed she possessed supernatural powers.
